Civil Cost Drivers in Oil, Gas & Energy — 2026 Outlook
This technical white paper examines often-overlooked civil infrastructure cost drivers affecting oil, gas, and energy facilities in 2026, with a focus on grading, drainage, containment systems, regulatory requirements, and early-stage planning risks across West Texas and Southeast New Mexico.
Helical Pile Foundation Design — Load Transfer and Torque Correlation Example
Helical piles are deep foundation elements consisting of a steel shaft with one or more helical bearing plates that advance into the soil through rotational installation. Unlike driven piles, helical piles develop capacity through controlled torque application, which allows installation resistance to be correlated directly to axial load capacity. This measurable installation parameter provides a practical and reliable method for predicting compression and uplift performance.
This design example demonstrates the evaluation of axial capacity using both the individual bearing method and the torque correlation method. The example illustrates load transfer mechanisms, plate bearing resistance, and shaft contribution under typical subsurface conditions. Assumptions, governing equations, and applicable safety factors are presented in accordance with standard geotechnical design practice.
